The 16-year-old Melissa Wu was a seasoned international competitor when she arrived at Beijing 2008. She competed at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games at just 13 years of age. In the synchronised platform diving, Wu combined with Briony Cole to win the silver medal behind Ruolin Chen and Xin Wang from the all-conquering team of Chinese women divers. This was Australia's best ever result in synchronised diving.
