Gilley’s Shield heads to Adelaide: Softball

The Nations top female Softballers will head to Adelaide this weekend for the second round of the Gilley’s Shield and Edebone-Weber Shield.

Seven teams from around the country and New Zealand will compete in the event. Teams participating include ACT Diamonds, SA Starz, Qld Heat, NSW Firestars, Vic Titans, WA Flames and a NZ Women’s Selection team.

The Gilley's Shield is the highlight of the Softball calendar where Australia's best female Softballers represent their state or territory in a national competition to win the Shield. It is the highest level of competition for the Open Women and is played over 4 rounds and 3 weekends. This combined event is the pinnacle of the Softball national calendar, showcasing top athletes and their outstanding skills.

The Edebone-Weber Shield is run in conjunction with the Gilley's Shield. The McLaughlin Cup is awarded to the team that finishes top of the ladder on points at the end of the competition. Participating teams include the South Australian Starz, Victorian Titans, Western Australian Flames, NSW Firestars, Queensland Heat and ACT Diamonds.

The games will be played at the home of Softball SA, Adelaide Shores Reserve. Games will be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, concluding in a match with the Australian Institute of Sport squad and the Australian Under 19 squad, who will also commence a camp on Sunday afternoon.

After the first round of competition in Perth at the end of October, SA Starz and Qld Heat lead the way in the competition.
