Arizona USA BMX National: 1at Place, Day 1
The 2013 USA BMX National Pro Series kicked off in Phoenix Arizona this past weekend.
Straight off the back of the Mountain Bike National Championships in Australia I jetted off to America to back up with two massive weekends of racing.
45 pro men and 21 pro women from across the world competed in the first major BMX race of 2013.
The level of competition was World Cup standard including the Olympic gold medalist from Columbia Mariana Pajon. Olympic bronze medalist Laura Smulders from the Netherlands, the Australian Olympic team, Teagan O'keeffee from South Africa, 3 time USA #1 girl pro Dominique Daniels and the USA Olympic team.
Black Mountian BMX club made some great changes to the track causing some interesting racing. A standard BMX track has three corners whilst this track had six!
A new addition to the American national series, is the inclusion of three finals for the pros where the accumulation of points from the three finals determines the overall winner for the day.
Over three hundred mottos of riders and roughly eleven hours at the track each day with three heats a semi final and three finals each day, getting only five hours sleep….it was a #Blowout #Tough weekend.
There is also a new inclusion this year having a $250 BMX HOLE-SHOT Awardsponsored by Answer, for the first male and female rider to the exit of the first turn in the first final of each day.
Saturdays night first final I cut across the field from lane six causing an explosion of five girls crashing in the first turn. I won the hole-shot award and the first final. I came second to Dom in the second final leaving it down to a decider in the third final for the winner. I passed Dom in the second last corner of the third final taking the win for that final as well as the overall win for day one.
Sunday, all I can say was rough, with a six am wakeup call and a nap mid way through the day in the back of the Box Components truck. Admittedly I am only human and was exhausted just trying to hang in there. I finished the three finals placing in overall fifth place for day two. Next stop Florida this coming weekend for the next two races in theUSA BMX National Pro Series.
