2012 BMX World Cup Champion!
Disappointment + Redemption = World Cup Champion!
The last round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup season was held in Abbotsford Canada last weekend. It has been a long season with a jam packed qualifying schedule leading up to the Olympics. One of my goals for 2012 was to have a consistent season and win the overall UCI BMX World Cup Season.
This year I couldn't possibly have been any more consistent when it came to riding the track. I broke previous records and made history by winning six consecutive UCI time trials. World Cups in the USA, Norway, Holland, World Championships, Olympic Games and the last World Cup of the season in Canada.
Shortly after winning the time trial I did the maths and worked out that I had pretty much secured enough points to win the overall title. Saturdays racing was smaller than most World Cups this year with a slight drop off in participation and motivation after the Olympics. I had my mind set on some redemption after the Olympics and wanted to end the year on a positive note and with a bang.
Smoothly progressing through to the final, USA's Brooke Crain and myself crashed in the first turn ending for both of us the chance to get on the podium. I got back on the bike and finished the lap realising that Felicia Stancil and Lauren Reynolds had crashed also and I was able to roll across the line in 5th place.
Sumarising the 2012 season considering how unpredictable and cruel BMX can be sometimes, I have had an almost flawless season and the best year of my racing career to date.
Shortly after racing, a group of the BMXers headed to Whistler for some mountain biking fun! I was in heaven, Whistler is one of my favourite places in the World.
Next stop Las Vegas for Inter Bike the worlds largest bicycle trade show. See you soon my amazing sponsors and friends..time to start planning 2013.
