Anna Flanagan is a defender with the Hockeyroos. Debuting early in 2010, Flanagan showed some good signs and continued to develop throughout the year, eventually earning a place in the 2010 Commonwealth Games squad.

Greatest achievement off the field: Yr 12 certificate and completing 1st year university

Who is your sporting heroine? Cathy Freeman, Natalie Cook- Sydney Olympic gold medalists

How many hours per week to you train/exercise? Around 20

What kind of diet or nutrition plan are you on? Proten! Working with our nutritionist and gym coaches to build up muscle mass and therefore perform skills with greater strength and speed

What do you love about your sport? I love the team aspect of being able to share the moment with others who are equally as passionate about what they do and the challenges faced. I also love the competitive drive that makes you want to be better for the people around you as well as yourself

If you could change something about your sport, what would it be? Greater media coverage and recognition for the success the men and women’s teams are having in world hockey

What motivates you? The will to win and be the best that I can!

Do you have a profession outside of your sport? Journalism student

Three words that describe you: Determined, competitive, committed

If I wanted to play your sport, what advice would you give me? Stick with it and invite all your friends! It is the best sport ever!
